TASTING NOTES
Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2022 Magnum by Antonella Corda is an authentic and vibrant Sardinian red, produced in a generous 1.5-litre format ideal for sharing convivial moments. This 2022 vintage, awarded excellent scores such as 93/100 by James Suckling and 17/20 by Jancis Robinson, stands out for its Mediterranean freshness and silken elegance, thanks to 9 months' barrel ageing. The 2022 vintage in Sardinia was marked by a balanced Mediterranean climate, with ripe but not overripe grapes, lending the wine crystalline transparency and fruity vivacity. Hailed as one of the most elegant expressions of Cannonau, it offers fine tannins and a refreshing persistence, perfect for drinking now or over the next 5 years. Hailing from Serdiana, in the heart of south-eastern Sardinia, this area benefits from pebbly soils and a sea-ventilated climate, imparting unique minerality and spiciness to the wines. The planting density of 4,545 vines per hectare and Guyot training preserve aromatic concentration, making Antonella Corda's Cannonau an emblem of Sardinian organic viticulture. Cannonau, synonymous with Grenache, is a rustic and generous vine variety, perfectly suited to Sardinia's heat, ripening anthocyanin-rich grapes for intense colour and red fruit aromas. Here it yields a fresh and spicy profile, with notes of white pepper and Mediterranean maquis, eschewing the typical alcoholic power thanks to controlled yields and gentle macerations. In the glass, it shows an intense and brilliant ruby red with a luminous rim. On the nose, it bursts with raspberries, ripe cherry, sweet spices, aromatic herbs, sea breezes, and floral hints of dried rose. On the palate, it is soft and silken, medium-bodied, with integrated tannins, lively freshness, and a persistent finish on mineral and fruity notes. Antonella Corda leads this family biodynamic estate in Serdiana, with certified organic vineyards and a minimalist approach that highlights the terroir. Antonella has been dubbed by Jancis Robinson as the producer of the "most elegant Cannonau ever tasted", thanks to untoasted barrels that preserve varietal purity.
