TASTING NOTES
Assembled from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Meunier, Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve Champagne is born from a targeted selection of around 40 crus from Champagne, with a small percentage of Pinot Noir vinified as red from Les Riceys, an area renowned for the finesse of its rosé reds. Pinot Noir lends structure and red fruit, Chardonnay adds tension, elegance, and citrus notes, while Meunier rounds out the picture with plumpness and riper fruit aromas, creating a broad and harmonious aromatic profile. The vinification employs around 25% reserve wines in the blend, with an average age of 5 years—a detail that ensures complexity and vintage-to-vintage style consistency. A small portion of the wines (8–10%) matures in old barrels, which do not impart invasive woody notes but add depth, spicy touches, and a warming sensation on the finish. After tirage, the Rosé Réserve rests for 3–4 years on lees in the historic chalk cellars of the Maison, achieving an ultra-fine mousse, a creamy texture, and outstanding integration of freshness and complexity. The 8 g/L dosage places it in the Brut style, balanced between vivacity and pleasing softness, ideal as an aperitif or with a full meal. In the glass, this Champagne displays an elegant powdery pink hue, luminous and brilliant, with a thread of fine, persistent bubbles that heralds the refinement of the palate. On the nose, the Rosé Réserve is intense and precise: strawberry jam, vine peach, and ripe red berries emerge immediately, accompanied by warmer notes of gingerbread, cinnamon, and a touch of soft cream evoking whipped cream. On the palate, it is assertive and generous: red fruit is full and juicy, yet always supported by vibrant freshness, chalky minerality, and velvety creaminess that extends the finish with spicy and lightly toasty echoes. Its structure and precision make it perfect with bresaola carpaccio, grilled prawns, loin cuts, and cheeses like medium-aged Mimolette, as well as fusion cuisine featuring fish or white meats. The Maison matures its Champagnes in ancient crayères—underground chalk caves dug in Gallo-Roman times—an environment with constant temperature and humidity that allows for slow and profound ageing. It is in these spectacular galleries, now regarded as a true historical heritage of Champagne, that the Rosé Réserve develops its renowned precision, silky bubble, and unique combination of freshness, roundness, and complexity, earning it top scores from leading international guides.
