The Barolo MGA Sant’Anna Riserva Magnum 2015 from Tenuta L’Illuminata is a pure Nebbiolo from a single cru in La Morra, released in a 1.5 L magnum with individual gift box, ideal for enthusiasts, wine shops and special occasions. The 2015 vintage in the Langhe was warm yet well balanced, yielding wines of notable richness and intensity, with softer tannins than more austere years, combining immediate appeal with excellent ageing potential. In the glass, it shows a luminous garnet red with impressive concentration and the first orange tinges at the rim, indicating an evolved but still vibrant stage of maturity. On the nose, this is a complex, alluring red, rich in spice, with sweet notes of dried rose, hay, hints of tar and fine tobacco, ripe red fruit and gentle toasted tones from its extended maturation. On the palate, the tannins are sweet and beautifully polished, the cherry fruit is juicy and fresh, and the toasty signature of Sant’Anna Riserva 2015 is enveloping and intriguing, leading into a long, savoury, harmonious finish. Compared with the “classic” Barolo Sant’Anna, this Riserva spends an extra 24 months in ageing, achieving greater depth, complexity and roundness while retaining the freshness typical of La Morra’s calcareous, sandy–loam soils. The magnum format allows for even slower, more even development: the greater volume of wine for the same level of oxygen ingress through the cork better preserves aromas, balance and finesse, making this bottle particularly suitable for cellaring and gradual enjoyment over time. This Barolo Riserva is a perfect match for substantial dishes of Piedmontese cuisine – brasato al Barolo, Barolo risotto, game, roasts and very mature cheeses – and for winter dinners where the wine becomes the undisputed protagonist of the table.
