TASTING NOTES
Colle di Maggio Èstia 2021 Lazio Rosso IGT is an intense, enveloping red based on Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on the volcanic hills around Velletri and crafted for those who enjoy supple yet structured wines with a strong Lazio identity. In the glass, Èstia shows a deep ruby red colour with garnet highlights that hint at both structure and maturity. The nose is rich and seductive, offering ripe bramble blackberries, dark berry fruit and touches of plum, wrapped in delicate boisée notes and gentle sweet spice from time in wood. On the palate it is full‑bodied, creamy and well balanced: an important tannic backbone is rendered elegant by a juicy acidic spine, giving lift and freshness to the sip and leading into a long, harmonious, persistent finish. The Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from about 2 hectares of vineyard at 150 metres above sea level on clay soils of volcanic origin, trained to Guyot and planted in 1989 at a density of 4,545 vines per hectare. After hand‑harvesting at full ripeness, the grapes are destemmed, given a brief cold soak and fermented in temperature‑controlled stainless steel to preserve fruit expression, followed by maturation and integration of oak notes that enrich the profile without overwhelming it; the estate uses large Slavonian oak casks, with around 18 months in wood, four months in cement and further bottle ageing. The name Èstia recalls the element of fire and the goddess of the hearth, symbol of domestic warmth, passion and the art of winemaking—concepts that aptly describe the warm, embracing character of this Lazio Rosso IGT. At table it is a superb match for pasta with meat sauces, roast or grilled red meats, oven‑baked game and blue or aged cheeses, making it an ideal choice for online wine shops and restaurants looking to offer a modern, elegant Lazio red with real personality.
