TASTING NOTES
Il Tornese 2024 Drei Donà Forlì IGT is the flagship white wine of historic Tenuta La Palazza, on the hills between Forlì and Predappio—a true 'white exception' in a region renowned for great Sangiovese reds. It blends Chardonnay and Riesling Renano, grown organically with biodynamic conversion, on sustainable clay-limestone soils powered solely by solar energy and prioritising biodiversity. The Tornese story began in the 1980s with Conte Claudio Drei Donà's visionary planting of Chardonnay—the first in Romagna to craft a significant wood-aged white in Sangiovese country. Today, his son Enrico delivers a modern, versatile take, fusing the varieties into a unique cuvée that has made Il Tornese the cantina's white icon. Bright straw yellow, clear and luminous in the glass Intense scents of Mediterranean and exotic fruit—apricot, apple, citrus—with fine spices like ginger and cardamom, plus subtle vanilla from partial tonneau ageing. Fresh, sapid, and structured in the mouth: initial softness yields to lively acidity and long persistence, with an elegant, mineral finish that renders it highly gastronomic. The 2024 vintage in Romagna's Forlì-Predappio area favoured whites: balanced climate, healthy aromatic grapes, high quality translating to precision, energy, and drinkability in this Tornese. Ideal with grilled fish, raw seafood, shellfish, seafood primi, or lightly spiced cuisine, it's the perfect organic-biodynamic Emilia-Romagna white—elegant, terroir-driven, and characterful—for discerning palates.
