TASTING NOTES
As a veranda outside the old city walls of Dürnstein this vineyard overlooks the Danube River. The unique location of this site, together with the contented primary rock sediments of the soil, and the extraordinary age of the vines, which are 80 years old in this vineyard, generates a singular expression of Grüner Veltliner. The wine is never fruity but always spicy and salty, equipped with unparalleled acidity. It remains in large oak barrels on yeasts until just before bottling. This Grüner Veltliner has an intense greenish-yellow colour and aromas of herbs, tobacco, spices, and dehydrated fruit. Its unusual style leads to a long finish. Patience and experience are required for this wine, and it will be rewarding after a few years of maturation. It is one of the characteristic wines of Pichler-Krutzler!
