The Metodo Classico Il Viaggio Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut 2021 by Roberto Garbarino is a premium sparkling wine from the renowned Alta Langa DOCG in Piedmont, one of Italy’s top regions for high-quality Metodo Classico (traditional method) bubbles. Made exclusively from carefully selected Chardonnay grapes grown in 15-year-old vineyards at 500 metres elevation on marl-limestone soils with sandy veins, this Blanc de Blanc showcases distinctive minerality and impressive structure. With a limited production of around 50 hectolitres per hectare, the wine prioritises quality through manual grape selection and gentle pressing to ensure purity and elegance. The base wine undergoes fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 14°C to preserve freshness and natural aromas. Secondary fermentation takes place in bottle over approximately one month at very low temperatures, followed by an extended lees ageing of 30 to 40 months. The wine is then carefully riddled by hand for about a year to achieve perfect clarity and fine mousse. In the glass, the Il Viaggio Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut 2021 shines with a bright straw-yellow colour complemented by an exceptionally fine and persistent perlage, signalling expert craftsmanship and long ageing. The nose reveals complex aromas of pippin apple, jasmine, lemon blossom, and toasty bread crust—characteristic of prolonged lees contact. On the palate, this Metodo Classico sparkling wine is creamy, fresh, and savoury, with a full-bodied structure and remarkable length, offering excellent balance and harmony. It pairs beautifully with elegant aperitifs, fish and seafood dishes, shellfish, and delicate white meats.
