TASTING NOTES
Tiraki Pinot Noir Marlborough 2024 is a vibrant, pure-blood red from New Zealand, produced by the Hammond family at Longfield Farm, a historic estate founded in 1870 and converted to vines in 1999, with 100% Pinot Noir grapes grown sustainably in Marlborough's Southern Valleys on clay soils with high sunshine and diurnal temperature swings that impart elegance and freshness. The 2024 vintage, favoured by cool, sunny weather and early harvests, has produced wines of great fruity purity and fine structure, fermented naturally with spontaneous fermentation and matured in French barriques to artfully balance fruit and spice. Marlborough, on New Zealand's South Island, is renowned for its fresh winds from Cook Strait, gravelly and sandy soils with perfect drainage, and cool nights that preserve acidity in Pinot Noir, yielding slender, fruity wines far from warmer climates, with a unique terroir shielded by mountains. Marlborough Pinot Noir is a noble, sensitive variety, here elevated by the cool climate to reveal red cherry, raspberry, and spice notes with velvety tannins and vibrant minerality; originating from Burgundy, it adapts magnificently to the Kiwi terroir for elegant, age-worthy reds. In the glass, it shows bright, lively ruby with purple highlights. On the nose, it offers elegance of red cherry, Doris plum, raspberry, wild herbs, and floral touches, with delicate wood spices. On the palate, it is silky and concentrated, with a fresh mid-palate, fine tannins, fruity persistence, and mineral finish, perfect for game or red meats. Born during the 2020 lockdown by three Hammond brothers with Māori roots (Ngāi Tahu), Tiraki means "clear sky" in Māori, a symbol of optimism; it is New Zealand's first B Corp-certified winery (score 102.5), undergoing organic conversion, using sheep for natural fertilisation, and donating 2% of revenues to biodiversity. Excellent pairing with Marlborough game or cheeses. Discover the sustainable Tiraki Pinot Noir Marlborough 2024.
