TASTING NOTES
The Südtirol Alto Adige DOC Gewürztraminer 2025 Winzerberg is an aromatic and seductive white wine, produced by the Winzerberg winery, capturing the essence of a favourable 2025 vintage with warm summers tempered by cool nights, ensuring ripe grapes rich in sugars and intense aromas for a balanced, age-worthy profile. This harvest benefited from stable weather after a rainy spring, with optimal ripening that enhances varietal typicity without excess. Alto Adige, especially the steep slopes around Bolzano and Tramin between 400 and 800 metres, offers porphyritic and calcareous hillside soils providing excellent drainage and profound minerality. The pronounced diurnal temperature swings, aided by alpine winds, preserve freshness and amplify floral and spicy aromas, making this DOC the global heartland for authentic, complex Gewürztraminer. The Gewürztraminer (Traminer Aromatico), originating right in Tramin in Alto Adige and spread since the 13th century, is an aromatic grape with pinkish skin producing intense, spicy, fruity wines (12.5-14% alc.), famed for rose, lychee, and clove notes. In this land, it thrives at suited altitudes for slow ripening that balances perceived sweetness and lively acidity, yielding elegant, versatile wines from aperitif to meditation. Visually, it presents an intense straw-yellow colour with golden highlights, luminous and enveloping. On the nose, it is explosive and aromatic, with rose, lychee, grapefruit, lime, orange zest, cloves, and cinnamon. In the mouth, it is full-bodied, complex, soft, and fresh, with velvety structure, fine spiciness, and a persistent finish. Perfect with spicy Asian cuisine, crustaceans, blue-veined cheeses, Tirolean speck, or as a digestif wine. Winzerberg cultivates just seven grape varieties biodynamically on heroic vineyards—a fun fact testifying to South Tyrolean artisanal passion.
