Antonella Corda's Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2023 is an elegant, organic red wine, produced in Serdiana, in the heart of Sardinia, from 100% Cannonau grapes grown on calcareous soils with sands and pebbles, in a Mediterranean climate that imparts freshness and finesse to the wine. The 2023 vintage stands out for optimal ripeness, with concentrated yields thanks to a high planting density (4545 vines per hectare) and gentle macerations, followed by maturation in steel and untoasted French oak barriques to preserve its fruity purity. Serdiana, just a few kilometres from Cagliari, is a terroir suited to Cannonau due to its marly and pebbly soils that ensure perfect drainage and minerality, while sea breezes temper the summer heat, yielding an agile Cannonau that is not overly alcoholic, far removed from the stereotype of powerful Sardinian reds. Cannonau, the Sardinian synonym for Grenache, is an ancient, vigorous vine that probably arrived in Sardinia via the Phoenicians or Spaniards, expressing here Mediterranean notes of maquis, red fruit, and spices, with silky tannins and unique freshness from the altitude and island terroir. In the glass, it shows an intense, lively ruby red with bright highlights. On the nose, varietal finesse emerges with cherry, raspberry, blackberry, rose, aromatic herbs, Mediterranean maquis, and delicate spices like white pepper, alongside sea breezes and sweet touches. On the palate, it is fresh and harmonious, with exceptional tannin softness, silky structure, elegant persistence, and warm vanilla notes from the wood, ideal for easy, versatile drinking. Cantina Antonella Corda, run by the young and passionate producer, is a 40-hectare family estate (vineyards, olives, and arable land), all organic, renowned for respectful winemaking that exalts the terroir without compromise.
