Gevrey-Chambertin 2022 from Domaine Georges Lignier et Fils is a powerful yet refined red from Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, Pinot Noir from vines over 50 years old on limestone soils, blending intense red fruit, fine tannins, and saline minerality for evolution up to 10 years. The 2022 vintage in Côte de Nuits was warm and generous, yielding mature, concentrated grapes from balanced yields, producing a youthful, fruity Gevrey-Chambertin with solid tannic structure and potential animal aromas on development; no specific ratings for this cuvée yet, but the domaine confirms excellent longevity. ​ Gevrey-Chambertin AOP, in northern Côte de Nuits, spans 400 hectares of limestone hills covered in Bresse marl and Comblanchien limestone, between Brochon and iconic Grands Crus like Chambertin; the domaine’s four parcels (En Vosne, En Dérée, Es Murots, Le Fourneau) mix varied exposures for depth and mineral freshness. ​ Pure Pinot Noir from 50-year average vines, vinified with 80% destemming, 4-5 days cold soak, indigenous yeast fermentation, and 18-20 months élevage in barrique (25% new) on lees with two rackings; 13% abv, medium-full body served at 16-17°C with grilled red meats, game, or aged cheeses. ​ On the eye, deep ruby with purple hues, dense and lively. On the nose, wild strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, violet, and fine spices. On the palate, powerful and broad, velvety tannins, fruity freshness, and saline-mineral close. Founded in the early 1900s, Domaine Georges Lignier et Fils (16 ha over 50 parcels, 17 appellations) is now led by Benoît Stehly with a sustainable approach on old vines; celebrated for elegance and depth, it ranks among Gevrey’s top for balance of power and finesse.
