TASTING NOTES
Toscana IGT Obizzo Vermentino 2025 from Donna Olimpia 1898 is a fresh and vibrant white wine, perfect for those who appreciate elegant whites from Tuscany's Maremma. The 2025 vintage proved excellent in Bolgheri, thanks to a cool winter and spring that delayed the vegetative cycle, followed by a sunny and stable summer with temperatures rising from late May, coastal marine breezes, and no rain during ripening: healthy, ripe Vermentino grapes harvested from the second ten days of August. It is born in the heart of Bolgheri, between Bibbona and Castagneto Carducci in the province of Livorno, a flat area overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea with sandy and silty soils that impart minerality and vibrant freshness. The Mediterranean maquis and sea winds protect the vineyards, making this terroir ideal for whites like Vermentino, renowned for its typical Tuscan sapidity. Vermentino is a versatile native vine with thick skins, resistant to drought and saline breezes, producing aromatic wines with crisp acidity and Mediterranean aromas. In Bolgheri, it best expresses citrus and balsamic herb notes, with unique persistence thanks to the well-draining soil and coastal microclimate. On the eye, it shows a pale straw yellow with greenish highlights, bright and crystalline. On the nose, it is ample and clean, with fresh citrus, white flowers, delicate honey, lime curd, and marine nuances enhanced by the 2025 vintage. In the mouth, it is harmonious, sapid, and creamy, with medium body, enveloping roundness, and persistent aftertaste, ideal for a young vintage. Perfect with seafood starters, grilled fish, white meats, or summery vegetarian dishes.
