TASTING NOTES
Porto Ferreira Dona Antonia Reserva Tawny is a special wine, a Tawny Port signed by the renowned winery to celebrate Dona Antonia Adelaide Ferreira who in the nineteenth century gave a great impulse to Ferreira and which, under her guidance, acquired great prestige among the best known Portuguese producers. The grapes, selected and picked by hand, are gently pressed and vinified according to the traditional Porto method. The whole process takes place under strict control of the temperature and density of the wine, to choose the ideal moment for adding wine alcohol, which is essential to stop fermentation and maintain the natural sweetness of the Port. The wines selected for the Dona Antonia Reserva Tawny remain in the Douro region after the harvest and are brought to Vila Nova de Gaia the following spring, where they will begin the traditional period of aging in oak barrels. The final blend is composed of wines of different ages and provenance in order to obtain a coherence of style and quality typical of Porto Ferreira Dona Antónia Reserve. The wines are aged between 4 and 12 years, reaching an average age of about 7 years. It has a beautiful red color, with intense nuances that refer to the slow aging in wood. The aroma is intense and rich with hints of very ripe fruit (plum and apricot) combined with floral notes. The spicy notes are combined with hints of hazelnut deriving from the evolution in oak wood. In the mouth it is a full-bodied wine with a rich taste, very well balanced. It goes beautifully with desserts and cheeses. To be served fresh.
