TASTING NOTES
Riesling Loiben 2024 from Pichler‑Krutzler is a dry, vibrant Wachau Riesling from the Loiben basin around Oberloiben and Unterloiben, at the eastern gateway to the valley, where wines are noted for purity, tension and marked minerality. In the glass it shines a bright green‑tinged yellow, luminous and crystal clear. The nose opens with white peach, apricot, citrus, white flowers and herbal nuances, wrapped in a pronounced wet‑stone mineral note typical of Riesling on Danube gravel. On the palate it is dry, juicy and very fresh, with high yet ripe acidity, good concentration and a long, linear, saline finish that leaves the palate spotless. The Loiben designation covers the vineyards of Oberloiben and Unterloiben on gently sloping, south/south‑east‑facing sites towards the Danube, at around 210 metres altitude with modest 5% gradients, where soils are dominated by gravel and sandy sediments. At night, cool air from the lateral Menthalgraben drains into the Loiben basin, creating strong diurnal shifts that foster high, perfectly ripe acidity and an energetic, precise style. In Riesling Loiben 2024 this terroir translates into a very pure, focused and highly drinkable wine. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled stainless steel, followed by several months’ ageing on fine lees in tank to preserve aromatic integrity and palate tension. Wachau DAC Riesling Loiben 2024 is an excellent match for fish dishes, shellfish, delicate Asian cuisine, vegetables and fresh cheeses, and since 2019 the estate and all its wines have been certified organic (AT‑BIO 402).
