TASTING NOTES
Vicara's Mimì Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese DOC 2023 is the cantina's pure Grignolino expression, reimagining the grape's most authentic, refined Monferrato character through a contemporary lens. This red unites delicate colour with decisive personality—blending freshness, spice, vibrant tannins, and profound territorial identity. The dedicated vineyards span Momperlino, Montarucco, and Quagliotta at around 300 metres altitude in the Monferrato Casalese hills, rooted in calcareous-marly soils dominated by Pietra da Cantoni and Antognola formations—ancient marine sediments that confer finesse, tension, and marked sapidity. Guyot-trained under organic regime, these plots maximise the 100% Grignolino's terroir bond. Manual crate-harvest leads to spontaneous native-yeast fermentation; skins macerate 4–6 days, followed by malolactic in steel, then maturation in steel and at least six months in bottle—harmonising tannins while preserving structure, freshness, and aromatic precision, with solid evolutionary potential. Mimì gleams with a medium-intensity carmine red and subtle garnet reflections, quintessential to Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese. A faceted aromatic profile weaves rosehip, fresh strawberry, and red berries with light spicy nuances—especially white pepper—highlighting elegant vibrancy. At the palate has vibrant freshness leads, with fine, present tannins and pronounced sapidity lending structure and dynamism; the balanced, lingering finish endures gracefully. Mimì pays homage to noblewoman Mimì Visconti: post-mortem, the family's highest, most singular Vadmon vineyard—immersed in woodland at 350 metres, shielded by the UNESCO-listed Sacro Monte di Crea sanctuary—at was dedicated to her elegance. This familial tribute fuses history, landscape, and tradition into profoundly Monferrato finesse.
