TASTING NOTES
Abbotts & Delaunay Languedoc Blanc 2024 is a fresh and refined white wine from the AOP Languedoc, perfectly capturing the elegance of southern France's Mediterranean terroirs. Produced by a historic winery blending English and French heritage, it's celebrated for sustainable viticulture. This vintage thrived in a warm yet balanced year with moderate yields, yielding concentrated aromas and vibrant acidity—widely praised for its precision, even without formal scores. The Languedoc appellation spans from Montpellier to Nîmes, nestled at the Black Mountain's base near the Thau Basin, where Quaternary calcareous soils, wet marls, and siliceous gravels deliver profound minerality, sea salt tang, and explosive fruit. Coastal breezes from the Mediterranean keep whites crisp, while south-facing hillside vineyards ripen optimally under sunny, wind-moderated skies. Crafted from a harmonious blend of Grenache Blanc (50-60%) and Vermentino (40-50%)—iconic southern French varieties—Grenache Blanc lends roundness and lush ripe citrus scents, complemented by Vermentino's mineral drive and zesty citric lift. Fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and lees-aged for five months, the 2024 offers preserved freshness, layered complexity, and 2-3 years' cellar potential. On the eye, it gleams with a clear, bright straw-yellow, luminously inviting. The nose bursts expressively and elegantly with white flowers like orange blossom and hawthorn, ripe mandarin and grapefruit, verbena, and hints of apricot. In the mouth, it's ample and silky, refreshed by poised acidity, weaving bergamot, Corsican clementine, subtle anise, and yellow plum; the finish lingers long with minerality and salinity, making it spot-on for aperitifs or seafood. Founded by an Englishman and a Burgundian, Abbotts & Delaunay excels in approachable quality wines, where young enologist Jeanne Delaunay weaves Burgundian finesse into Languedoc blends.
