TASTING NOTES
The Südtirol Alto Adige DOC Kerner 2025 Winzerberg is an aromatic and vibrant white wine, produced by the Winzerberg winery in Alto Adige, capturing the fresh, mountainous essence of this promising vintage. The 2025 vintage, characterised by mild springs followed by sunny summers and cool nights, delivered ripe grapes with balanced acidity and intense aromas—ideal for a Kerner of great finesse and longevity. Alto Adige, with vineyards between 600 and 800 metres in the Eisack Valley and Renon, boasts gravelly, sandy, and mineral soils perfect for Kerner. The nocturnal temperature swings, amplified by alpine winds, preserve freshness and intensify fruity aromas, making this DOC a paradise for world-class aromatic whites. The Kerner, a crossing of Riesling and Trollinger (Schiava Grossa) created in 1929 in Germany and named after the poet Justinus Kerner, excels in Alto Adige thanks to its cold resistance and late ripening. It produces medium-bodied wines (12-13.5% alc.), fresh and perfumed, with spicy and fruity notes that make it versatile and easy-drinking. Here, on sunlit slopes, it expresses unique minerality and perfect balance between aromatic sweetness and savouriness. Visually, it displays a luminous straw-yellow colour with greenish highlights, crystalline and inviting. On the nose, it is intense and aromatic, with scents of white peach, apricot, mandarin, and nutmeg spice nuances, fresh and enveloping. In the mouth, it is dry, full, savoury, and vibrant with freshness, featuring a persistent, mineral finish that invites another sip. It pairs magnificently with light antipasti, eggs, mushrooms, freshwater fish, or shellfish, as well as a refreshing aperitif. Winzerberg, a South Tyrolean artisanal winery, cultivates only selected grape varieties with careful, biodynamic methods—a fun fact that highlights its commitment to authentic quality.
